The hard living in these parts can throw different folks together. What binds them is sometimes more obvious than others. Whether it’s a shared identity or shared hardships folks tend to gather together to get through. When Buck Elba and the rest of his gang came to town it was plain as the nose on your face what bound them together. What it is they want in town is a little harder to discern. Whether here for good or bad only time will tell.

The Rancher was left with a difficult choice, his men had all moved on and left him, he could either lose his year's work or use somebody else to help him get his herd across the country. Sometime big help can come in small packages. The boys from the local school answered his call and have helped him get the herd across the land and has arrived in town looking for a buyer. Now they're in Dead Man's Hand the lessons they have learned across the land need to be used to keep them alive.

Whether hunting down wanted men or fighting marauding bands of malcontents the Texas Rangers are a force to be reckoned with. As happy in the saddle as they are on foot they have come to Dead Man's Hand with their own ideas and sense of justice. When they first entered town many inhabitants left just as quick, no need to look over the wanted papers they carry. Now they're here who knows how long they'll stay or what they want, for most the streets have become safer, for others a lot more dangerous.

Once in a while things’ll get so bad around town that the folks have just had enough. Sometimes the law helps, other times the folks in town are brought together by something else entirely. The Stranger came into town and shook everything up. Short on words, he let his pistols do the talking, and when they spoke they sang a song of death. Nobody knew his name when he came or when he left, they just knew that the streets were safer and the cemetery held a few more corpses.

When the Sergeant and his men first came to town there were many folks that weren't keen on them at all. Dead Man's Hand is a town that doesn't like interference from anyone. The thought of a group of strangers coming to town, bringing rules and regulations from the outside was never going to make them popular. Over time though most folks have seen the men as a force for good. Not everybody sees things that way, many people have crossed the Buffalo Soldiers, very few have come off the better for their experience.
